Abstract
Will is a mental function that has been poorly studied in recent years. Therefore, we conducted a review about its philosophical backgrounds and the opinions of classical authors concerned with the theme. There is no consensus regarding the concepts of will and its disorders. Numerous inconsistencies were found in the proposed definitions. Further studies about psychopathology of will are still needed.
