Abstract

This final chapter revisits the aim of this book. The four sections of this book have asked a number of questions: What stressors do physicians experience across the education continuum? What are the consequences of stress for multiple stakeholders such as physicians, colleagues, and patients? How do physicians cope with stressful demands? What strategies can be used to promote resilience among physicians? How can we tackle the culture of stoicism and emotional silence in the House of Medicine that encourages physicians' self-harm? The chapter summarizes the answers to these questions. It identifies important questions that still remain and ends the book by drawing on positive psychology with a critique of problematizing stress and instead considers the positive side.
