Communism Introduction

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter (Book)Otherpeer-review

Abstract

This brief introduction provides some background on the significant role that Communist ideology played in the formation of the two Koreas. The Soviets imposed their Stalinist system of government on the people of the North, thereby introducing a form of Communism to the Peninsula. However, for many Koreans, Communism promised a tantalisingly comprehensive pathway to decolonisation, including national recognition and autonomy, accompanied by rapid industrialisation and equality.
