Context/background: Artificial intelligence (AI) tools like generative AI have rapidly gained traction in higher education, offering unprecedented opportunities for innovation in teaching and assessment. However, the integration of AI also raises significant challenges related to faculty readiness, ethical practices, and academic integrity (Holmes et al., 2022). As institutions grapple with these issues, there is a growing need for collaborative frameworks to guide the responsible and effective use of AI in education (Chan, 2023).
Description: Our discussion draws from a year-long cross-institutional learning circle that investigated diverse roles AI can play in higher education, such as Mentor, Tutor, and Tool (Monash AI Learning Circle, 2024). While this initiative developed practical guidelines and examples of AI-integrated activities, the roundtable shifts focus from sharing findings to fostering collaborative
dialogue. Participants are invited to exchange experiences, strategies, and perspectives, moving beyond the dissemination of insights to co-creating knowledge about navigating AI integration effectively. Intended outcome and contribution to scholarship/practice: The session aims to advance understanding by co-developing actionable insights and shared strategies for AI integration. By fostering dialogue, it seeks to identify best practices that balance innovation with ethical and pedagogical considerations, contributing to institutional frameworks and policy development.
Engagement: Roundtable will open with a brief provocation, such as: “Is AI a disruptor or enabler in higher education?” Participants will then engage in guided discussion, addressing questions like: “What opportunities does AI create for redefining teaching and learning paradigms in higher education?” “How do we navigate academic integrity concerns while encouraging AI adoption in assessment design?”. Discussions from the roundtable will be synthesized into key takeaways, supporting future collaboration.
