Abstract
A class of generalized four-round impossible differentials of advanced encryption standard (AES) was presented by applying the miss-in-the-middle technique. The influence of round function components on the distribution of active bytes in an XOR pattern was considered. Results indicated that the differentials could be used in an impossible differential cryptanalytic attack on reduced round variants of AES.
