Abstract
Existing studies on Chinese outward FDI in western academic literature have not sufficiently explored the relationships between the FDI motives, investment strategy and the implications of these for human resource management. In particular, Chinese MNCsa?? investment motive and strategy have a direct effect on the mode of entry (eg, through acquisitions) and location (host country). The implications for managing human resources in host countries may differ significantly due to differences in country-specific business systems and employment environments. This paper reviews the driving forces for Chinese firms to invest overseas and key challenges they may encounter. It then contemplates implications of HRM for Chinese MNCs in host countries.
