Abstract

This introductory chapter begins with a discussion of developments in child welfare research over the past half-century. It then presents an overview of the six parts of the book: (1) child welfare research; (2) evidence-based practice in child welfare; (3) research on adoption, guardianship, and family ties; (4) decision-making in child welfare; (5) evidence-based child welfare policy; and (6) international issues in child welfare research.
