Chaperones: Inserting beta barrels into membranes

How β-barrel proteins are inserted into cellular membranes is poorly understood. New work has identified a sorting and assembly machinery that chaperones β-barrels into the mitochondrial outer membrane and is evolutionarily conserved from bacteria to man.
