Abstract

Gas sensors play a vital role in several domestic and industrial applications, ranging from indoor air quality monitors, sensing volatile organic compound biomarkers in human breath to gas leakages in process control. The great success of halide perovskites in photovoltaics and optoelectronics has opened prolific research efforts aimed at their use in sensing applications. Hybrid metalorganic halide perovskites exhibited excellent gas sensing parameters, but their poor stability has been a major limitation. Inorganic halide perovskites especially, Cs based halide perovskites have demonstrated superior performance in terms of sensing behaviour combined with good stability. This mini-review paper represents a summary of thin film and quantum dot Cs based halide perovskites sensors for detecting various gases and the research challenges from the perspective of emerging sensor materials.
