Abstract

Media and public relations industries play a pivotal role in the construction and maintenance of celebrity status. While some celebrity publicists gain a prominent profile, the work of many others remains hidden. This chapter acknowledges significant shifts in everyday public relations work and explores celebrity public relations and internet celebrity in order to more fully understand public relations and its societal impact and the contributions of promotional work in the growth and pervasiveness of celebrity and influence in contemporary society.
