Casualisation of youth employment is mortgaging the future

    Abstract

Eric Abetz suggested that young people not in study or training could take up picking fruit in Tasmania, as he defended proposed changes to Newstart that would compel Australians under the age of 30 to wait six months before receiving unemployment benefits. In a debate dominated by ideology, lack of hard evidence and false perceptions, it is useful to look at some of the facts.
