N2 - Innovative research is driven by fresh-thinking, embracing a broad range of perspectives and challenging the status quo. Major global health challenges present the need to innovate our approaches to understanding biology and pathology and how we intervene therapeutically in disease to identify novel treatments for infection (bacterial, viral, malaria, etc.), neurologic disorders, and comorbidities associated with obesity and aging (e.g., diabetes and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis). In an upcoming special issue titled “Emerging Leaders in Pharmacology and Translational Science”, we are seeking to highlight the innovation and discoveries driven by the scientific leaders of tomorrow—high-caliber graduate students and early career researchers—within the fields of pharmacology and translational science. We are keen to profile research that challenges existing paradigms for drug action and/or reveals new insights in mechanisms of action from atomic-level detail through to efficacy in preclinical models.
