Bridge management in Australia and new Zealand: Current approaches and future needs

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference PaperOther

Abstract

This article presents a review of the management of existing road bridges within Australia and New Zealand. Currently, the approaches to bridge management vary between the nine regional road jurisdictions. Different performance measures are applied, and different road bridge management systems are used. A uniform approach and agreement of the performance goals is desirable. Hence, the future needs required for these jurisdictions will also be discussed. Achievement of a uniform system not only provides an efficient way for bridge management of road bridges, but also allows quality assurance for their design life of 100 years and beyond.
