Abstract

At a press conference in 2015 Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe described Japan’s then 62-year-old Japan-US alliance as the cornerstone of his country’s national security. He went on to ask, If Japan is attacked, the U.S. Forces will spare no effort in defending it…. Even if those U.S. Forces on duty to protect Japan are attacked, we cannot do anything, we will not do anything, unless Japan itself is attacked. That has been Japan’s position to date. Does this really make sense?.
