Abstract
EPA Victoria is charged with the responsibility of both monitoring the environmental health of Victoria s beaches as well as communicating the results of the monitoring program to those at risk. To the first end, EPA has a strong program that combines both sampling as well as predictive modelling of contamination drivers (most notably urban runoff into Port Philip) which results in a daily forecast on the expected beach conditions. The daily forecast is translated in to simple water quality rating of good , fair and poor . These forecasts, along with the water quality rating, then serve as the primary tool for the second task of communication about conditions which is undertaken in a variety of ways including:
