Abstract
We appreciate the interest of Lampros et al. in our article1 and their insightful comments regarding the potential of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). The NLR holds promise as a relatively low-cost and more readily available biomarker of inflammation compared with immunoassay measures of interleukin-6 (IL-6). While we cannot explore the potential diagnostic utility of the NLR because of the absence of this measure in our control participants, acute NLR data were available for 37 of the 74 patients with mTBI. As such, in response to the suggestion provided by Lampros et al., we have analyzed NLR values and their correlation with acute IL-6 values in this subgroup.
