Abstract
The current technological trends in Australia's pulp and paper industry include: the utilization of the latest high-speed forming devices on relatively narrow packaging grade machines; further adoption of peroxide-based steep bleaching; a move towards gate roll size press technologies; increased utilization of new technologies for upgrading low grade recycled fiber sources; and increased closure of mill water systems for decreasing water consumption and increasing effluent usage for irrigation. Education, training and cooperative research programs have been integral to these innovations and technology advancements in Australia.
