Atom probe characterization of plate-like precipitates in a Mg-RE-Zn-Zr casting alloy

Abstract

The plate-like precipitates in a Mg-RE-Zn-Zr casting alloy were analyzed by the three-dimensional atom probe (3DAP). The precipitate was studied with transmission electron microscopy. The analysis showed that the major precipitate phase in the Mg alloys has an ordered G.P. zone structure.
