Abstract

Australia has a higher per-capita consumption of antibiotics than Canada and many European countries and a higher average consumption than the OECD average. About 80% of antibiotic prescribing takes place in the community. Better data on antimicrobial prescribing behaviour might help identify opportunities for improved antimicrobial stewardship.
