    Abstract

Discover the chain of events that led to the downfall of Ancient Egypt during the Old Kingdom and the rise and fall of Angkor's Kingdom in Cambodia...

New answers are being meticulously sought out by archaeologists on the very sites where these civilisations once thrived. As this two-part documentary unfolds, a series of enigmas will be gradually resolved by the new evidence brought to light.

The causes of collapse are many and at times uncomfortably familiar with issues our world faces today: drastic and sudden climate change, spiritual and religious crises and political upheaval.

How can we use the past to better understand our present? Will we avoid the mistakes of our predecessors?

The Twilight of Civilisations starts Friday, 7.30pm, SBS ONE.
