Abstract
It is now apparent that the coupling of gas chromatography (GC) with mass spectrometry (MS), following development of GC in the 1950s has revolutionized the way analytical problems for volatile chemical analytes are approached today, although it is entirely logical that this coupling has had the impact that it has. This is the most successful of all hyphenation to produce a synergy offering much more than either technique alone.
