Abstract
This paper looks at the transmission planning problem from a technical viewpoint in the context of a competitive market environment. In order to plan a transmission network to properly accommodate future power flow patterns, a load supplying capacity optimization model for network expansion is proposed. Illustrative examples based on the IEEE 24 bus test system are studied and comparisons of the proposed planning model with an improved minimum load shedding model as well as a typical traditional model are made.
