Abstract
The authors report the first demonstration of all-optical time division multiplexing (TDM) to wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) conversion based on four-wave mixing in a semiconductor optical amplifier. A 700Mbit/s TDM bit stream at one wavelength has been converted to two 350Mbit/s WDM bit streams at two wavelengths spaced by 4nm. Observed bit error rates are less than 10-9.
