Abstract
Revolutionary Cuba narrative fiction showed a clear tendency to avoid the topic of marginality until the 1980s. Since then, however, first the Nuevos, and then the Novísimos, have opened new thematic spaces and developed a poetics of marginality, in which atypical, peripheral characters appear in the centre of their texts. This article analyzes the ideological position of the Revolution in relation to the concept of marginality and then examines examples of the narrative fiction wrtitten by five authors who from different perspectives have reflected on marginality in the first decade of this century: Guillermo Vidal, Pedro Juan Gutiérrez, Amir Valle, Lorenzo Lunar and Ronaldo Menéndez.
