Abstract

A review of the technology and transduction methods behind airborne ultrasound is presented. This covers the main areas of transducer design and properties, but also the many applications to which ultrasound can be applied within gases. It will be shown that many of these applications require a wide bandwidth, so that signal processing can be applied. In addition, there are various ways of changing the directivity and achieving focussing, and these are also discussed.
