Abstract
Wind tunnel modelling studies were carried out to evaluate the aerodynamic forces on a 275 m chimney for a power station. Interference effects from a second chimney and other power plant structures was also investigated. Results of the model tests and mathematical modelling are outlined. It was concluded that the power plant structure had no significant effect on the magnitude of chimney wind loads, interference between the chimneys was not large, the effect of a ladder with protective cage was found to be significant, and observed base moment values were substantially lower than those predicted theoretically.
