Abstract
A well-designed multimodal interface fusing two or more information sources can effectively reduce recognition uncertainty and stabilize system performance. Performance advantages were demonstrated for different modality combinations, as well as for different user groups, applications, and environments. Most importantly, the error suppression achievable with a multimodal interface, compared with a unimodal one, can be substantial-exceeding 40 percent.
