Abstract

Binding of insulin to the insulin receptor (IR) stimulates the receptora??s tyrosine kinase activity. IR activation leads to the recruitment of key activators of downstream pathways via the insulin receptor substrate (IRS) proteins. In a similar fashion, the insulin growth factor-1 receptor (IGF1R) transduces signals to downstream effectors via the PI3K and MAPK pathways.
