Abstract

The quantity and functional capacity of adenosine triphosphate-binding cassette (ABC) efflux transporters at a cellular interface is not identical between two people or necessarily the same for one individual at two points in time. Transporter levels are known to change due to a variety of factors including age, sex, medical condition, and medication use. These variations may result in individual differences of drug pharmacokinetics between patients.
