Abstract
An adult male Common Chaffinch Fringilla coelebs was observed on 4-5 May 2001 during a visit to Phillip Island, Norfolk Island group. The sighting, which has been unanimously accepted by the Birds Australia Rarities Committee, constitutes the first record of this species for the Norfolk Island group and the first documented record for Australia.
