Abstract

This article demonstrates that knowledge of teaching about teaching is an important foundation to quality in teacher education and that a pedagogy of teacher education is crucial to that process. It explores the complex nature of teaching teaching and illustrates how learning to articulate a knowledge of practice is important in underpinning the professional knowledge of teacher education. Following a brief historical background of a pedagogy of teacher education, the article examines two major themes: teaching about teaching; and, learning about teaching. In doing so, it illustrates how a pedagogy of teacher education might be distilled and conceptualized so that it takes a useable and shareable form.
