N2 - While the fate of El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) in a warming world remains uncertain, it is likely that the impacts of climate change will be mediated by how ENSO evolves. Numerical models are valuable tools for improving our understanding of past, present, and future climate, and it is therefore crucial to evaluate how well they simulate ENSO behaviour.
