Abstract

The article explores the cognitive load and performance of simultaneous interpreting between English and Mandarin Chinese in court settings. It highlights the challenges faced by interpreters in managing cognitive load and the impact on interpreting performance. The study aims to deepen understanding of simultaneous interpreting and offers practical implications for improving working conditions in Australian courts and similar jurisdictions. The findings suggest that interpreting expertise and working conditions play crucial roles in enhancing interpreting performance and reducing cognitive load.
