A 'herstory' of Malaysian public relations: Paddy Schubert, Malaysia’s women PR pioneer

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceeding › Chapter (Book) › Other › peer-review

Abstract

This chapter is the first scholarly attempt in documenting a herstory of one woman’s successes and contributions to Malaysian public relations. It documents a herstory of Paddy Schubert and her 60 years’ experience in Malaysian public relations. Paddy Schubert was born on 11 May 1925 and was christened as Pearl Margaret Mary Fort at St Leonard’s Church in Padiham in Lancashire, England. At a time when women in public relations were largely invisible, Paddy Schubert successfully fought male hegemony and opened the doors for several Malaysian women to find success. During a time when women were seldom working and education was difficult, it is amazing how Paddy, a woman from a small Lancashire town in England with limited exposure to different races, religions and cultures, made her way to a totally different part of the world and succeeded in revolutionizing the position of women in Malaysia.
