Abstract
Triphenylphosphine reacts with a representative of each of the main stoicheiometric classes of the "quaternary" iodomercurates* in acetone or ethanol, with the formation of an iodo(triphenylphosphine)- mercury(II) complex, and either a "quaternary" iodomercurate with a higher iodine: mercury ratio than the reactant or a "quaternary" iodide.
