Project Description
This facility will allow us to implement methods of x-ray diffraction-based imaging using existing x-ray sources that are currently being developed. We will use outstanding problems in the biological sciences to provide immediate outcomes and act as drivers for the implementation of these methods. In particular we will perform:
-cellular imaging for malaria parasite infected red blood cells;
-sub-cellular imaging of mitochondrial organisation within cells;
-structural determination for certain important macromolecular membrane protein complexes using micro or nano crystals or 2D crystrals or arrays.
