Project Description

This workshop will engage academic and practitioner communities in policy-relevant debate about the efficacy of microfinance as a tool to achieve women’s multidimensional empowerment and poverty alleviation in the Asia-Pacific. The findings of development organisations implementing these programs will be synthesized with scholars, across multiple disciplines, to provide insight into the challenges of this particular development strategy. Employing insights from this analysis, workshop participants will discuss and formulate innovative research and evaluation methods, to further investigate and increase the potential for women’s multidimensional empowerment in the region. Workshop convenors aim to produce accessible publications, for academic, practioner and general audiences, and proposals for future innovative research.
