    Project Details

    Project Description

This project will examine the ways in which scholars working in Australian academia have come to know and understand Indonesia. It will investigate scholars' engagement with Indonesia and the impact of disciplinary, political and moral influences on their interpretations and knowledge. This scholarship is recognised within government and academia to be of immense importance for relations between Australia and Indonesia. This project will explore this evolution through a biographical study of Australia s foremost and pioneering scholar of Indonesia, Herb Feith, and a conference and monograph involving scholars from both nations. It will make a timely contribution to debate within the academy and society about relations with our neighbour.
