Project Description
This project, conducted by the Climate Change Communication Research Hub at Monash (Appendix 1) aims to partner with TV weather presenters in Victoria to introduce short ‘non-persuasive’ climate segments into their bulletins. (Appendix 2) Non-persuasive graphics are apolitical, easy to digest, and repeated to extremely large audiences by trusted sources. (Appendix 3)
The first survey of every weather presenter in Australia has just been completed (Appendix 4), in which 91% of respondents reported being comfortable with using local climate graphics in their TV reporting. This project will test an operational structure (Appendix 5) which brings together climate scientists, communication designers, and broadcasters at Monash, the CSIRO, BoM and Climate Central in the US and commercial television networks to deliver easy-to-visualise climate science to television audiences.
