Project Description
With the pressure to achieve decarbonization targets in compliance with the Sustainable Development goals, it urgently calls for the digitization of the building and construction industry for the better management and assessment of sustainability Key Parameter Indicators of buildings. However, the available building assessment tools which uses BIM itself only provides static data of the related built environment and is unable to carry out automatic real-time updates of the information within the models unless additional sources of data are provided. To bridge this gap, this research proposes the development of a digital twin platform to carry out Dynamic Life Cycle Assessments to monitor sustainability Key Parameter Indicators of a chosen pilot project (university building). Significance of the use of digital twins to bridge the existing gaps in integrating facility models to replicate with the physical facility itself during all life cycle stages of buildings can be used to avoid the general sub standardization of the building design, construction and operation of complex building facilities such as universities. Not only will this result in the enhancement of the efficiency of the considered facility but also will allow the involved stakeholders to enjoy sustainable savings, benefits to the society and an overall reduction in the waste generation to the environment.
