Project Description

To date, there is little data on the characteristics of violent offending in Australian adolescent populations and its relationship to gender and ethnicity. We aim to characterise the nature of violent offending and recidivism in an Australian population of young offenders with specific reference to gender and ethnicity and to examine the validity of adolescent violent risk assessment tools. The project data will provide new information on the nature, characteristics and socio-demographic correlates of violent crime in Australian Youth. Work in this field will help improve the characterisation and identification of at risk individuals and should ultimately improve our attempts at early intervention.
