Training Educators to Lead Constructive Dialogue Across Differences

Project: Research

Project Details

Project Description

This innovative project addresses a critical societal challenge: equipping educators to navigate and lead constructive discussions in increasingly diverse classrooms. As globalisation, migration and polarisation reshape the social fabric, educators often find themselves unprepared to manage the tensions and complexities that arise from diverse perspectives. This project aims to empower educators with practical tools to foster inclusive dialogue, reduce polarisation, and build critical thinking and empathy among students.

The research will focus on developing and testing a novel training framework at Monash University for university educators over two years. The framework will include workshops, best-practice guidelines and curriculum examples featuring adaptable activity ideas tailored to the needs of educators in diverse classroom environments. The framework will be trialled and refined based on feedback and measurable outcomes, with the goal of creating a scalable model for broader use in schools and universities.

Key anticipated outcomes include improved classroom inclusivity, enhanced educator confidence in addressing sensitive topics, and a scalable model for use in schools and universities nationwide. By fostering constructive dialogue, the project aims to lower tensions, build resilience, and equip the next generation of students with the skills to navigate and address complex global challenges.
