Toxic cyanobacterial blooms in a CO2-rich world: Assessing the impacts of global climate change.

Project: Research

Project Details

Project Description

This project will assess the consequences of climate change, including global warming and elevated CO2, on the physiological performance and competitive advantage of freshwater bloom-forming cyanobacteria (blue-green algae). Algal blooms in Australian rivers and lakes are a major environmental problem with significant economic costs. This proposal will provide useful information on how predicted changes in global climate might affect the frequency and intensity of such events and will thus inform future management strategies.
