This project will generate new understandings of the complexities of political Islam, and the role of violence and terrorism; by exploring the links between medieval and modern Islamism; the theological and ideological bases of al-Qa ida s political tactics; the geographic contours of al-Qa ida s political strategy and implications for both the Christian-Muslim relations and the hypothesis of the impeding clash of civilizations in the twenty-first century world.
