Project Description
Injury remains a leading cause of death and disability among children. It is not good enough to simply tell
children to be more careful. The science of injury prevention depends upon a clear understanding of the
context in which children interact with the world, so that this context (rather than the individual) can become
the focus of preventive efforts. The aims of this project are to quantify the extent which innovative
government policies in disadvantaged areas of South East Queensland are achieving better outcomes for
children. Results from this study will support further policy development and implementation throughout
Australia to reduce the problem of childhood injury.
