Project Description
Research into student learning in science has identified major learning challenges in foundational science areas, yet teaching and learning approaches based on cognitive perspectives have had mixed success. This research will take a new perspective into learning, focusing on representational aspects as the key element, to explore these challenges from a fresh perspective. It will work with a small group of expert middle years teachers to develop enhanced understandings of critical representational issues and opportunities in key science conceptual areas. It will explore effective pedagogies focusing on representation, including approaches to assessment, and generate exemplar materials capable of supporting this approach more generally.
