The role of post-instrumental practice in twenty-first century music

Project: Research

Project Details

Project Description

Post-instrumental music makes the ordinary extraordinary via detailed investigation of familiar objects or common experiences. Emerging from a western art music tradition, the innovations that drive post-instrumental music require the rethinking of established western music practices, and the development of new musical language, notation, instruments and performance practices relevant to our twenty-first century context. By systematically examining the field and considering the relationship of this work to contemporary music theory and history, this research will aid in our understanding of how post-instrumental practice is contributing to and driving evolution of music and musical expression in Australia and internationally.
