Project Description
How did galaxies form and grow over the eons? This is one of the most important questions in astronomy,
and a key science goal for 21st century astronomical facilities, including the Australian Square Kilometre
Array Pathfinder. Galaxies grow by forming stars and via mergers of galaxies; but which process dominates?
I will use vast galaxy surveys to trace when and how galaxies grow over cosmic time. I will precisely measure
how galaxies gradually grow over billions of years. I will use optical and radio surveys to measure how
galaxies reside and grow within extended structures of dark matter. This will provide important insights into
how and why galaxies are growing over cosmic time.
