Project Description

The Association of Ukrainians in Victoria Archival Project (AUVAP) is a collaborative project of the Mykola Zerov Centre for Ukrainian Studies at Monash University and the Association of Ukrainians in Victoria.

The project, administered by the Mykola Zerov Centre for Ukrainian Studies, is designed to save, preserve and make accessible the historical records kept by the Association of Ukrainians in Victoria (AUV) since its beginning in 1949.

The project aims to reorganize and catalogue the AUV records; to promote their use in advancing study of the history and culture of Ukrainian settlement in Victoria; and to generate peer-reviewed publications. The project engages with the AUV, a community organisation, and advances its goal of sharing access to its archive with the research community and the general public.

This initial project proposal covers the starting phase of the project: its first 13 months. This phase is designed to establish the project and promote it in the community, to gather and train a team of volunteers, to set up a working area, to write the archive policy, to begin the inventorying, sorting, repacking, restoring and cataloguing the archive, and to write and submit research papers emerging from the establishment phase of the research.
