The Assessment of a Novel Form of Exercise on Parkinsonism

Project: Research

Project Details

Project Description

A randomised controlled trial of a vestibular-stimulation, isometric exercise machine to improve balance in elderly patients with Parkinson's Disease (PD) or atypical Parkinsonism.
Exercise is known to improve the symptoms of PD, but many PD patients are unable to achieve the volume or intensity of exercise required.
This device assists isometric exercise, allowing impaired people to perform physical exercise far beyond their unassisted capacity.
Anecdotal outcomes at the pilot clinic have been promising, and in the project we are rigorously testing the effect of the device, whether it can improve balance, mobility and Parkinsonism symptoms.
Funding received for Innovation Connections program.
